The wisdom of Kathy Jackson, aka "The Cornered Cat," on holsters:
The other day in a private group elsewhere, someone asked about the "safest carry position" on body. Here's my reply, slightly edited for clarity.
The safest place to carry a gun is inside a quality holster, attached to the body of a person who has trained (not just practiced, but actually studied under the watchful eye of a competent other) how to safely draw and use the gun.
There are a lot of truly unsafe holster-like products on the market, especially among those marketed for women. When it gets down to it, every holster can be worn and used unsafely. But not every holster can be used safely. Buyer beware!
(And that's another reason to study this stuff under the watchful eye of a competent other. An instructor who knows what they're doing can definitely help their students learn to spot bad gear and find products that are easier and less dangerous to use.)
TL,DR:
It’s not where the holster is located on someone’s body that is the “safe“ or “unsafe“ factor. It is the design of the holster itself, and the competence of the person who uses it. ... See more
